I last night had some guy e-mail me on some bondage dating site I never go to anymore…bondage.com.
I don’t really dig it, but I always space out on taking down profiles.
So, whatever. OK, so, my g-mail notified me I had a new bondage.com message, so I idly went to see whyfor anyone was looking up my long inactive account.
So, this guy, he was asking me...get this…if I could suggest any people I would recommend with whom to study solo performance, as he is interested in learning.
Huh. Not the usual come-on.
I presume he did some homework about me, which is quite interesting.
So, I go and poke around the interwebs to find my fave guru, Anne Galjour. Lo and beholder, and find out she is teaching, for the SFSU Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, a 5-week class called “Writing and Performing Monologues” for $95.00
The creepity part?!
OK, here’s where it gets zesty.
Back in 1996 when I first moved to the Bay Area, an accidental mis-dial resulted in me speaking to the cousin of my former roomie from SoCal. She and I got to talking, and she persuaded me to try personal ad dating. (I have naught but several amusing stories as a result, but) the resonant thing is that one of the guys took me to a show, and tucked into the show’s program was an ad for Anne’s solo performance class, “Writers Who Act”. It was more than I could afford, but I scraped together the money to attend the class.
In the course of the course, I met Rebecca Novick.
Who founded Crowded Fire.
Which eventually produced my first Solo Show, “69Stories”.
God isn’t subtle this week.
Obviously, this colossal cosmic yet small voicey “Oops upside yo haid, beotch!!!” was needed!
“Well?!?! Silly rabbit. This is your rope. Pull yourself out and start with the simple.”
This is just too. Too much. Take a deep breath, and look at this. Begin at the beginning and see where this will unexpectedly lead. At the crux of this artistic brick wall, I am offered a work around that is so familiar. DO this seemingly small thing, and remember that you never, EVER know what will happen.
Funny old world.
